About Pamela Chetty

I have close to 20 years experience as a medical doctor. Apart from my MBCHB, I have a post graduate advanced University Diploma in Occupational health. This has provided me a solid background in terms of my special interest in how the work place impacts health and how modifications in the work space including employer participation can enhance work performance. In addition to this I have an additional specialisation in Clinical Pharmacology, (MPharmMed) through the University of Pretoria. This provides me with expertise in understanding all aspects of the relationship between drugs or pharmaceutical agents and the human body. This is a rapidly evolving field of medicine where there is ongoing research into the the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs, including new drug delivery methods. Specifically, I have a keen interest in pharmacological solutions for acne, including management of dermatological issues facing women such as hyperpigmentation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma, and sun spots. My aim is to make patients understand why certain drugs are being prescribed and how it works. Therefore patient education is very important to me. Apart from this I am passionate about the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), where my approach is a holistic perspective, considering both medical and lifestyle factors. I extremely passionate about ensuring patients understand all aspects of their blood works and investigations hence look forward to patients submitting their clinical investigations to me for an in-depth explanation, because I believe these days most clinicians are highly pressured and there is limited time to explain in detail every single investigation. This is one area I am keen on this platform. Finally, I have done locums in the various Emergency Units in Gauteng and KZN and remain keenly interested in this aspect of medicine. For the purposes of this platform, in order to safegaurd patients, I would restrict consultations to non-life threathening conditions such as: -Upper respiratory tract infections -Some lower respiratory tract infections -Sexually transmitted disease or genital infections -Bladder infection -Skin conditions, e.g. acne, melasma, hyper-pigmentation, minor bites, rashes -Stress related issues, insomnia, counselling, mood disorders -Gastrointestinal disorders e.g. diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, hemorroids, IBS -Eye conditions e.g. allergic conjunctivitis, red eyes -Mild allergies
